National ID card (CNIE)
Compulsory from age 16, valid ten years, requested in person at the consulate or in Morocco.
Key facts
- Valid 10 years. Compulsory from 16. A child over 12 can get one when applying for a passport.
- You can also apply in Morocco at a police (DGSN) office with the same documents, including your consular registration certificate.
- The receipt you are given is needed to collect the card.
Steps
- Get your consular registration certificate with your current address.
- Book on rdv.consulat.ma and go in person. Fingerprints are taken for a first card or a replacement.
- Keep the dated receipt and come back with it to collect the card.
What to bring
- Consular registration certificate with your current address
- First card: a copy of your page in the family booklet, or a full copy or extract of your Moroccan birth certificate less than six months old, with names in Arabic and Latin letters
- First card: four recent colour photos, 3.5 × 4.5 cm, white background, face uncovered, no dark glasses
- Renewal: two photos in the same format and your old card, which you hand back
- Lost, stolen or damaged card: a declaration made at the CNIE desk, plus the documents for a renewal
- Change of name or date of birth: the administrative or court documents that prove it
Watch out
- Lost the receipt? You can still collect the card: declare the loss at the consulate on the day. A small fee applies.
- Moved house? The card must be updated with your new address.
- Children born before 2 April 2007 to a Moroccan mother and a foreign father need their nationality document for a first card.
